13 people have died following a tragic road accident at the Migaa area along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
The accident occurred on Friday, March 14, around 2 a.m. when a trailer ferrying coffee seeds lost control and rammed into an oncoming 14-seater matatu carrying 11 passengers.
Reportedly, the trailer experienced brake failure while approaching the black spot, leading to a head-on collision with the matatu, killing all passengers on the spot.
Videos and images circulating online captured the matatu completely damaged with broken windscreen, windows, seats and deflated tyres, depicting the extent of the accident.
Additionally, the trailer, which was heading to Eldoret at the time of the accident, sustained significant damage to its front side. Footage from the scene shows rescuers struggling to retrieve those trapped under the wreckage.
Moments later, officers from the Kenya Red Cross Society and the Nakuru Disaster Management team arrived and assisted in rushing the victims to the hospital.
Police Spokesperson Michael Muchiri who spoke at the scene revealed that the accident claimed the lives of nine males, four females, and a child, including the crew inside the trailer.
While detailing the accident, Muchiri called on Kenyans, particularly motorists, to exercise caution when approaching the area, as Migaa is known to be a black spot.
