Professor Makau Mutua has slammed widespread claims that he secretly met on Friday, March 14, with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Attorney General Githu Muigai.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on March 15, Mutua dismissed reports that he had a meeting with the duo at Sarvid Garden, Kiambu Road, highlighting that he has never met Gachagua and has no plans to do so.
“Just to set the record straight. I met Gachagua, nor the former Attorney General Githu Muigai, at Sarvid Garden on Friday, March 14. I have never met Mr. Gachagua and have no plans to.”
“However, I did meet with my friend Paul Muite to catch up over the Nyama Choma. Too many idle people,” Mutua wrote.
This allegations started when blogger Scophine Aoko Otieno, also known as Maverick Aoko, claimed on Friday that Mutua, who is known to be an ally of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, was seen meeting Gachagua and Githu Muigai at Sarvid Garden on Kiambu Road.
“Wa Munyoro (Gachagua), Githu Muigai, and Makau Mutua, who is Raila’s friend, are currently meeting at Sarvid Gardens, behind Quickmart, Kiambu Road. Interesting times ahead. Don’t worry, I will keep updating you,” Aoko posted.
On Monday, March 3, National Chairperson Gladys Wanga revealed that Raila will consider Rigathi’s offer of joining forces with him, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
While speaking on NTV’s show Fixing the Nation, the Homa Bay Governor indicated that Odinga will consider working with Gachagua as he charts his next steps politically.
“We are going to look at all those things. Because when you want to cooperate, you have to look at what most nearly aligns with what you believe. So I think all of that is going to be considered,” she added.
