The cabinet secretary for interior, Fred Matiangi has declared, tuesday, 9th August 2022 a public holiday.
As Kenyans are eagerly waiting for the general elections, so many preparations have been put in place, this includes distribution of ballot papers to various counties and constituencies, organizing the lead observers and educating kenyans on how to vote.
The 9th of August is the official date when the general elections in Kenya will be held.
The interior cabinet secretary, Matiangi issues the statement in order to allow Kenyans to exercise their right to vote for a candidate that they see fit.
As Kenyans are being advised to vote wisely , choose leaders who will serve and solve their grievances, Matiang’i has stated the day as a way of allowing all Kenyans participate in the exercise without destructions from work.
The prepared statement read,” It is notified for information to the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government, pursuant to and in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (4) of the Public Holidays Act, read together with Articles 101 (1), 177 (1) (a) and 180 (1) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, declares Tuesday, 9th August, 2022, as a public holiday.
The gazette further read, “This will afford the people of Kenya the opportunity to participate in the 2022 general elections of Members of Parliament, Members of County Assemblies and County Governors, and the President.”
The leaders are advising Kenyans to come out in huge numbers and Vote . Kenyans are urged to vote in leaders who will represent them well and propel the country forward.
In line with voting, Kenyans are encouraged to maintain peace and harmony during the election period. This has included the peace messages online and also leaders in rallies such as president Kenyatta who pleaded with Kenyans to exercise their right to vote in a peacefup way without destructing anyone’s property.
