Today on a press briefing, the Independent electoral and boundaries commission chairman, Wafula Chebukati, suspended elections in the following areas of the country.
Mr wafula stated that, “ We wish to inform the country that despite the high level of preparedness,ballot papers for the following elective positions were noted to have errors. Number one, ballot paper for Kakamega county governor position have wrong gubernatorial pictures and their details printed on them.”
He also stated,” Ballot papers for Mombasa county governor have wrong gubernatorial candidate pictures and their pictures printed on them.”
He further stated, “ Ballot papers for Kacheliba consituency have wrong member of county assembly pictures and their details printed on them.”
“Ballot paper for pokot south Constituency have wrong member of National Assembly pictures and their details printed on them.”
Candidates who were to vie for those particular seats will be the same when the printing errors have been corrected.
Date for election of the suspended seats in the mentioned places, will be communicated on a later date.
He said,” As a result, elections for the respective positions have been suspended to a later date that will be announced through a gazette notice.
The chair however encouraged the residents from the mentioned places to go and vote for the other five positions that are in the ballot papers
According to the chair , Wafula Chebukati, the commission is committed to giving credible, free and fair elections.
The chair went ahead to state the details of tomorrow’s election. According to the history of Kenya , this is the 12th general election and 7th election since the reintroduction of multipartism and it will be the 3rd election to be held since amendment of the constitution of Kenya in the year 2010.
Kenya will also be choosing its fifth president. According to the independent electoral and boundaries commission statistics, there are over 22million registered voters who will decided who the next leader is.
