The independent electoral and boundaries commissions deputy chair has addressed the issue of failing KIEMS Kits.
Cases of failed KIEMS kits have been reported countrywide. This has affected the voting process as many Kenyans are not able to exercise their democratic right.
Earlier today, Roots party presidential candidate was not able to vote because of failed KIEMS Kits. Prof. Wajackoyah expressed his disappointment and claimed that the commission is trying to rig him out of the election.
The Independent electoral and boundaries commission has through its deputy has issued a statement saying that they have allowed the use of manual registers in areas where the KIEMS kits have failed.
Kakamega county specifically Makungu and its environs is being sorted out. The commission has provided 6 more back up kits per ward incase the KIMS kits have failed to work
“As stated above the commission has provided 6 back up kits per ward in the event of the failure of KIEMS.” She said
The deputy went ahead to urge Kenyans not to hesitate to report any inconvenience that they experience today as they are voting.
”The commission is urging members of the public to utilize the toll free line that is 1543 , 1544 should they wish to bring incidents to the commission’s attention.” She stated.
The deputy further told Kenyans not to worry of the difficulties experienced in regards to time. She promised that the time will be extended to allow for everyone to choose a leader of their choice.
She said,”Where there is a delay in the opening and interruption of voting at a polling station, the presiding officer shall extend the hours of the polling by the amount of the time lost.”
She further affirmed that the commission, IEBC will keep in touch with anything that concerns the 2022, general election.
”The commission will keep you regularly updated on the developments touching the general elections.” She affirmed.
