Joseph Kinyua, The Chair of President committee has stated that the swearing in of the president elect of Kenya will be a public holiday.
The committee which resumed office, held its annual meeting with different agendas including the swearing in date being a public holiday.
Kinyua further stated, the date will be set once the Independent electoral and boundaries commission declares the president election.
Kinyua, the committee’s chair further stated the ceremony of handing over is being prepared.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to hand over to the next president as soon as the date is set as per the constitution.
The meeting that was held in the Harambee house, is in preparation of the transition the new president and the new changes he is expected to make.
According to the Nation Media,
”The committee’s chair, Joseph Kinyua, while addressing the press from Harambee House, said they will be making periodic updates of the process.”
“The date of the swearing in of the president-elect will be declared a public holiday, Kinyua clarified, adding that the mandate of the committee will be triggered once the electoral commission formally announces a president-elect.”
On other news, Kibicho affirmed that the cabinet secretaries are busy preparing for the handing over exercise.
He stated,
“We are coming to the end of this administration and by law there is the assumption of office committee that … will start ,operating soon. It will start preparing for handing over power.”
As the constitution ammended in the year 2010, it is the role of a president to smoothly hand over.
This pertains him and his deputy including the Cabinet secretaries that served with him during the years he was in power.
The new president will be at liberty to choose new cabinet secretaries , who will be vetted and who he will work with in the next 5 years
