Agricultural Cabinet Secretary , Peter Munya has suspended the Sh. 100 maize flour program subsidy.
A shocking statement that was given to Kenyans today, August 13th , 2022 , Peter Munya stated that the program had been suspended because of lack of funds from the treasury.
He stated, “ Due to inadequate exchequer releases from the National Treasury, it has been decided that, the Maize Flour Subsidy Program be suspended with immediate effect.”
Kenyans are now back to purchasing maize flour ranging from Ksh. 230-250.
President Uhuru Kenyatta last month, spoke on the cost of living of a kenyan citizen. He , the president of Kenya, decided to lower the price of purchase of maize flours in every shopping in Kenya.
The concerns from Kenyans were that since the hike of the maize flour, most Kenyans are not able to purchase the essential commodity.
The commander in chief of army of Kenya, stated that the price of maize flour will be retailing at 100kes from the normal 230 kes.
This he stated, after deep consultation with the maize millers in the state.
He said, “I note with regret that the cost of a 2 kg pack of maize-meal remains out of reach for many, as it is currently retailing at an average of 205kes.”
He further stated,” “As a consequence of this continued escalation in food prices, I today announce Fiscal Measures focused on food Subsidy, as our Fifth Stimulus Programme covering the supply and distribution of our nation’s staple food – maize meal, across the entire country.”
President Kenyatta stated that the hike of maize flour was now an arena for politicians to want to highly replace him.
Being that it is a political period in Kenya, most politicians were promising Kenyans an affordable economy when they garner the seat.
Maize being a staple food in Kenya , it is going to be a tough time for Kenyans.
