After the announcement of results, the president elect, William Ruto had a press briefing with the media.
He thanked every Kenyan who went out to vote for him as the fifth president of Kenya. He promised to work in a focused way that will move Kenya forward.
He ,however, declared that he does not believe in handshakes. He ruled out that he will work with the opposition to the extent that the provide oversight in his reign
He further stated that the opposition have a role to play in the five years he will be in power and he ready to work with them in that capacity.
He stated, “My competitors have a role to play. I will work with my competitors in the role that the Constitution assigns the people in the opposition. They will provide oversight over my government and I intend to work with them in that capacity.”
He further stated that, he believes in democracy and not handshakes. He stated that an opposition is an important entity in any government. He advocates for a transparent government that the opposition will give insight.

Kenya’s president elect further said that handshakes led to mix up of governance during his reign as the deputy president and his principal, Uhuru Kenyatta.
He said,”mongrel of a government where no one knows who is in the Executive and who is in the opposition.I think the people of Kenya want clarity because we are democrats.”
During the Campaigns , president elect, William Samoei Ruto stated that the handshake stories led to the break up of jubilee coalition.
