There ministry of health has confirmed cases of swine flu in Nakuru County.
The health authorities stated that they received news from Kiptangwany health centre of case similar to the swine flu.
It got alarming when a lot of children were being brought to the health centre with symptoms of hyperthermia( high fever) which was an extra ordinary occurance.
The authorities in charge of health in Nakuru County therefore resulted to sending a number of health care care for samples from the affected children.
An analysis was done concluding that indeed it was swine flu that was causing the high fever symptoms among children in the area.
According to the incharge of health care in Nakuru county, Wainaina,Most of the affected children had nutrition deficiencies; most of them were malnourished.
Nutrient deficiency can results to a suppressed immunity. This makes the body unable to fight diseases such as the swine flu.
He however stated that there are very few cases in the county, that’s from the statistics in the health care centres.
He stated,”Most of the children affected were malnourished; meaning vulnerable as their immunity is low. The trend shows that there are very few cases. Yesterday only two cases were reported form Kiptangwany Health Centre.”
Dr. Wainaina further assured that the swine flu is common during the cold seasons. When the weather is back to normal, the trend slowly fades.
He also said that the ministry of health is working on the flu. Therefore, urging the Nakuru residents not to be worried of anything.
He said,”The trend is fading away, we are in flu season and every time the temperature is very low there is always an outbreak of flu which is normal. There should not be a cause of alarm, everything is under control.”
The reports from the health care centres have indicated that there have been more than 140 confirmed cases of swine flu in Nakuru County
