Kenya adopts new mechanisms to deal with HIV.
Health Cabinet secretary stated Kenya adopts new mechanisms that will deal with HIV better.
The new mechanisms involve a three test HIV testing algorithm that is expected to shed light on suppressing the virus.
Health Cabinet secretary, Mutahi Kagwe stated that the three testing algorithm will start in few selected counties.
Mutahi Kagwe alluded medical researchers who took the assignment of coming up with more adoptive ways but still by adhering to the World health organization standards.
He said,”I congratulate and thank members of the Taskforce for exhibiting professionalism and adhering to WHO recommendations while undertaking the assignment.”
This is the first time a review of a testing algorithm is going to be done in Kenya. The algorithm will be implemented as per the protocol and later adopted as Kenya’s testing algorithm.
The chairman of the Taskforce had earlier stated that the two test algorithm was not optimal hence initiating the three test algorithm.
He further said that the world health organization recommended the three test algorithm to countries with less than 5% (per cent) HIV prevalance. As of now, the HIV prevalence in Kenya stands at 4.3% (per cent).
The taskforce was supposed to review the performance of the current two testing algorithm and come up with evidence supporting the three testing algorithm.
Media reports indicated that, the taskforce was also supposed to oversea the adoption, implementation and feasibility of the three testing algorithm before handing in the report to the director general of health.
The adoption of the three testing algorithm, comes after the ministry of health launched the revised national guidelines for prevention and treatment of the Human Immuno deficiency virus( HIV).
