School on spot for allegedly expelling a girl over unshaved hair.
St. Mark ACK school on spot for expelling a girl whose religion prohibits shaving of their heads.
The girl’s mother who aired the matter on the media, said that the school will not admit her daughter unless she shaves.
She said,”My daughter was forced out of school and was told not to report back for studies unless she shaves her hair.”
The mother explaining the situation said that the religion the believe in prohibits women and girls from shaving their heads.
She said,”She is saved and the church we go to does not allow women and girls to shave hair. When I took her back to school, we were told that she must follow school regulations by shaving hair like other students.”
However, the school principal, Mr. Oliambo has refuted the claims stating that the girl was not expelled.
Mr. Oliambo stated that the shaving issue was discussed in front of the board members but the mother said she is ready to transfer the daughter to another school.

He further stated that the mother was the one who was keeping the daughter at home awaiting transfer.
Mr. Oliambo stated,”Traditionally, every school has got a culture on discipline. For us in this school, every student is supposed to have short hair for purposes of uniformity.”
He added,”In fact, it is her mother who said that if the girl cannot be accommodated in this school, she would look for another school which we accepted.”
The school principal also revealed that the girl used to shave until she joined the religion.
He stated,”It only reached a point when she said she had joined a religion which prohibits women and girls from shaving.”
The pastor from the church has appealed to the ministry of education to intervene.
He said,”Our appeal to the Ministry of Education is that it should come in and help the girl return to school while adhering to her religious teachings.”
