Ann Waiguru elected as council of governors chairperson.
Kirinyaga county governor, Ann Waiguru elected as council of governors chairperson today.
She beat her opponent, Ole lenku who was also eyeing the position.

Ann Waiguru who is Kirinyaga county governor for the second-term garnered majority of the votes hence declared as the new council of governors head.
She is taking over from the outgoing Embu governor Martin Wambora.
Her deputy will be Wajir governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud.
Among the first leaders to congratulate Hon. Waiguru was Cecily Mbarire, Embu county Governor and Senior Counsel Abdullahi Ahmednassir.
Mbarire said,”Congratulations, governor Anne Waiguru on your election as the chair of the Council of Governors (COG). We continue to shatter the glass ceiling day by day. Lead us to the next level my sister.”
Among the role she will perform are representing the other 46 governors, she will also oversee a mechanism for consultation amongst County Governments and facilitating capacity building for Governors.
Hon. Waiguru will also provide leadership in consideration of reports from other intergovernmental forums on national and county interests.
Ann Waiguru will chair will chair Intergovernmental Budget Executive Council headed Kenya’s deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua.
Deputy president said,”You can elect your chairman through consensus or any other form you want. I expect us to put our political differences aside and work together. I will work with whoever is elected.”
