DP Gachagua addresses ksh.100 unga subsidy.
Speaking on NTV, DP Gachagua addresses ksh.100 unga subsidy program, that was introduced by the former president, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Hon. Gachagua stated that, they had inherited a total of 8 billion debt that was supposed to pay off the unga subsidy program.
Deputy president Gachagua added that some of the millers together with state officials tried to exploit the government.
Gachagua said,”We will not pay bills without verification. They are telling us they have pending bills of Ksh8 billion yet nobody ever saw the unga. It was all theft. A few traders colluding with a few government officials took advantage of the subsidy.”
Deputy president Gachagua further stated that a double check and comparison review will be done before paying anyone who claims they supplied the nation with unga.
He also warned anyone trying to swindle the government, will face hard consequences.
He said,” The bills must be validated because these are public funds. Officers must be convinced that public money was used in the right way before they can pay, that I can assure you.”
He added,”The inspection validation and auditing will be done in a thorough manner and if they are genuine, they will be paid, if they are not, of course, they are consequences.”

Hon. Gachagua also pleaded with Kenyans to be patient with the government. Subsidies scrap off will help formulate a new long term solution.
He maintained that if they continued paying for the subsidies, the country would have faced an economic shutdown.
He said,”We are looking for a permanent and sustainable solution. It would have been deceptive to Kenyans to continue subsidizing the fuel only for a short while and then have an economic shutdown.
He added,” I want to urge our people to be patient because things will work out. We do not want a solution that is temporary or deceptive like the one done for unga.”
