Kenya’s president, William Ruto releases 3.5 billion to cater for the fertilizer subsidy directive.
During his speech, president Ruto stated that in his government, farmers will enjoy subsidized fertilizer to serve as an input to their crops.
He said,”For the short rains, we have already made arrangements to make 1.4 million bags of fertilisers available at Ksh3,500 for a 50 kg bag – down from Ksh6,500.”

The ministry of agriculture, has released around 1.4 million bags of fertilizer to the national cereals and produce board, to be used during the planting season in 2022.
NCPB stated,”To actualize the Presidential directive, the subsided fertilizer program will start with counties undertaking planting during the short rains season of 2022.”
NCPB added,”The government has availed Ksh3.55 billion to subsidize 71,000 metric tonnes (1.42 million x 50 Kg bags) of fertilizer for growing food crops during the short rains season.”
The 50 kg fertilizer bag will now be retailing at ksh. 3500. The ministry of agriculture has urged farmers who are in the short rains planting season to access the fertilizer in NCPB depots
Ministry of Agriculture said,”The Ministry appeals to farmers requiring fertilizers in the short rains dependent season to visit the nearest NCPB depot or sub-depot to access the subsidized fertiliser.”
President William Ruto promised Kenyan citizens that his government will focus more on the produce than consumption.
This will cater for food crisis including maize flour prices.
