Martha Karua’s political journey as she celebrates her 65th birthday.
Martha Karua took to her twitter account to celebrate herself as she turns 65 years.
She said,”Sixty-five today and thanking God for it.
A lot of Kenyans have wished her a happy birthday including his principal, Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga.
Hon. Raila said,” Happy birthday mate. To many more!”
Hon. Martha Karua’s political journey started in the 80s where she fought for gender equality in the introduction multi-party democracy.
Martha Karua has served as a magistrate in various courts from the year 1980 to 1987 before resorting to private practice of law.
She was elected as Gichugu member of parliament and served from the year 1992 to 2013.
She also served in the ministry of water under the late president Mwai Kibaki’s regime, before she resigned in the year 2008.
In 2013, she contested for the presidential seat among other candidates such as the former president of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta. She however lost the race since she emerged sixth.
In 2017, Hon. Martha Karua contested for the Kirinyaga county gubernatorial seat. She however floored in the elections as Hon. Ann Waiguru took the lead.
Karua, did not concede defeat, she petitioned the results to both the court of appeal and supreme court but the case was dismissed.
She took her case to the East African court where the government was demanded to reimburse her 2.7 million shillings, for disregarding her right to a fair trial.
In 2022, Martha Karua was a running mate to Azimio la umoja leader, Raila Odinga in the presidential race.
Azimio la Umoja however lost as Kenya kwanza took the lead with a total of 50.48%.
Together with her principal, they petitioned the election results in the supreme court, The seven benched judiciary dismissed their petition.
Martha Karua in the few last weeks, hinted at appealing the decision in the East African court.
She is also the NARC party leader.
