Ebola outbreak in Kenya; Details on 20 counties to stay alert.
The ministry of health has warned on an Ebola outbreak in Kenya.
Through a press briefing, the Ministry of health stated that Nairobi and Mombasa counties should stay on high alert because they host international airports.
Ministry of health director general, Amoth also listed other areas that are likely to be affected. He stated that those within the Nairobi Metropolitan region which consist of Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado and Nakuru country, which featured in the ‘red zone’ during the pandemic.
He however stated that the ministry of health has deployed health personnels to put up precautions or warn them of any cases, in the mentioned regions.
Amoth said,”Kenya needs to prevent the Ebola virus outbreak from spreading into the country, including stepping up surveillance for detection and preparedness for an appropriate response.”
Additional counties include; Makueni, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kericho, Bungoma, Siaya, Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Turkana, and Uasin Gishu.
The ministry of health also mentioned that Kisumu and Eldoret towns, will be monitored because of presence of international airports therein.
The ministry of health has told Kenyans to be on the look out for anyone portraying symptoms such as bleeding from body openings, a running stomach, high fever, a cough characterized by chest pains, and skin rash.
Any individual displaying the symptoms should seek urgent medical attention and report to the ministry for precautionary measures.
MoH said,”Members of the public are advised to practise regular handwashing, wear face masks, and maintain social distance.”
“Avoid touching or burial of dead bodies that have died of unknown causes unless confirmed by health authorities, and avoid contact or eating bush meat, especially from monkeys, bats, baboons, gorillas, and chimpanzees.” MoH added.
In line with that, in Uganda, Ebola cases have surged to 23 in the past few weeks.
