Atwoli speaks on video of Kenyan woman breastfeeding dogs in Saudi Arabia.
COTU Secretary General, Francis Atwoli speaks on video of Kenyan woman breastfeeding dogs in Saudi Arabia.
Atwoli has urged the government to ban all employment agencies brokering job opportunities in foreign countries.
He stated that the only way to protect Migrant workers in the gulf, instead of putting up a wall of rules, is banning all agencies promoting jobs to the gulf.
Atwoli stated,” I want to appeal to our government to go the way the first government of President Mwai Kibaki under Phyllis Kandie as the Minister of Labor did. She banned all employment agencies in Kenya.”
Speaking at his home in Kajiado, Atwoli added that another protective way is the government negotiating with the government of Saudi Arabia on terms and conditions of service, be it in Qatar or anywhere in the Middle East.
Atwoli stated,”This is so that our people living in this country can do decent jobs.”
Atwoli further revealed that the woman left home 2 months after she had given birth.
Atwoli said,” When they realised that she can breastfeed, the employer instead of giving her a proper job, he gave this girl the job of breastfeeding his puppies. This is indirect slavery.”
COTU general further argued that workers in the gulf do not give regard to their employees from Kenya.
Atwoli said,”It denies us our own citizenship as Kenyans who are from a free, independent and democratic country. A country that an create employment for its people.”
Atwoli further pleaded with the government to come to intervene in banning all agencies.
“I want to appeal to the government of H.E President William Ruto to ban all employment agencies and review issues related to outside employment of this country, as it has always been advocated for by the International Labor Organization,” Atwoli stated.
