The only woman shortlisted to replace Kinoti; Esther Seroney.

Over the weekend, National police service commission( NPSC), released a list of 10 shortlisted individuals expected to replace Kinoti.

Among the 10, one name caught the eyes of Kenyans. Esther Seroney, the only woman shortlisted for the DCI boss seat.

Seroney has her roots from the rift valley( Elgeyo Marakwet.

Her Career

Seroney is currently the Bomet county police commander.
She was among the seven women who were appointed on January 21, 2019, by former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett as county commanders.

Boinett stated,”These are the officers appointed county commanders to the Nyanza region. As you can see, they are a mixture of officers from the Administration Police, DCI and Kenya Police Service.”

Esther was once the head of the investigating agency in Homa Bay in 2018. She also worked as the Busia County Criminal Investigations officer in 2017.

In 2014, Esther passed a test that was assessing the competence and suitability of high ranking officers.

Esther also worked in Muranga county as a Senior Superintendent (SSP).

Academic Proficiency

Seroney attended the Ortum School of Nursing between 1983 and 1986.

In 2002, She enrolled in Criminal Investigations Department (CID) training school in Nairobi. Pursued a certificate course in law enforcement.

In 2004, Esther was a student at Government Training Institute, a training institution replaced by the Kenya School of Government, for a certificate in Middle Management.

This she followed with a certificate of prosecution course at the CID school.

She later joined Kenyatta University where she pursued a Diploma  in Security Management and Police Studies.

In 2019, Esther graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Security Science and  Management from Kenyatta University Institution.

Contributions to the society

Esther, together with her team in Homa bay, launched the Child Protection Unit to cater for the rising cases of child abuse in the county.
