Raila’s lawyer petitions the president’s directive on GMO products.
John Mwangi, Former Raila’s lawyer petitions the reinstatement of Genetically modified foods.
Mwangi has urged the court to overturn the directive by President William Ruto citing it to be unconstitutional.
He added that the order not only harmful to the farmers but also consumers.
Mwangi further argued that the GMO products would interefere with the good Kenyan soil, since they have not been tested.
“Mwangi said,”The hasty removal of all regulatory protocols in the cultivation and trade in genetically modified foods in Kenya is neither rational nor reasonable.”
“It goes against the right to food of acceptable quality, consumer rights guaranteed by Article 43, right to fair administrative action in Article 47 and Freedom of conscience, religion thought belief and opinion,”mwangi added.
This comes days after the opposition leader, Raila Odinga questioned why the president would reinstate the GMOs regardless of the conspiracies behind them.
He for instance gave an example of the harmful effects of the products, the reason why other countries rejected them.
Azimio la Umoja leader urged Kenyans to exercise the freedom of speech and say no to the Geneticallt modified products.
Raila said,”The main reason European countries denied it is because of health concerns. I hear they wanted to do research.Which research will they do? We have rejected it. We must stand up and say no to GMOs.”
GMOs were banned in the year 2012 under the late former president, Mwai Kibaki, because of the harmful effects to consumers.
