We aren’t targeting or trying to penalise them
We aren’t targeting or trying to penalise ; DPP Haji has explained his decision to charge DCI SSU, he said that the prosecution is not a war against the police service.
Speaking at a book launch in Mombasa, Director of public prosecution stated that his only aim was to bring all the rogue cops to book, because no one is above the law.
He added that the rogue cops consist of a very small percentage of the national police service.
He said,”Those who are engaging in those activities are probably just one percent and it should not be reflective of the police. What we should recognise is that the police are doing a great job…the police should not take it as if we are targeting or trying to penalise them.”
DPP Noordin Haji further highlighted that he is looking forward to an improved working relationship, between the office of the director of public prosecutions( ODPP) and Directorate of criminal investigations( DCI).
This comes after Haji expressed how frustrating it was working with the former DCI boss, Goerge Kinoti.
DPP Haji said,”Moving forward, what we hope to see under this new dispensation and the next five years is that we will be able to cement a working relationship that works towards ensuring that their is good faith and collegiality between the different institutions that are charged with ensuring that the rule of law and access to justice is dispensed to each and every Kenyan and that we may be people of integrity and that we should be honest and true to the constitution and the law.”
Since the head of state disbanded the DCI special service unit, officers attached to the DCI are facing charges attached to extra-judicial killings.
