Speaking at on november 11, the morticians associations, stated that its hight time the government gave them more credit.
The association stated,”We are saying that morticians need more support, recognition and above all to be having a skill that will be recognized as a cadre.”
“With entry points and scheme of service, morticians will at least feel as part of the medical community,” they added.
The sentiments were expressed during the first-ever mortician conference. The conference was aimed at discussing issues and common challenges affecting morticians across the country.
The mortuary attendants Maintained that they will continue to urge the government to enact them into a scheme of service.
They also formed the Morticians and Allied Professionals Association of Kenya to push for their rights and recognition.
They maintained,”Morticians play a major role, that particular day when life ends, and they deserve social protection and recognition.”
The meeting was held at Tom Mboya labour college in Kisumu. In attendance was Kisumu county deputy governor Mathew Ochieng Owili.
The Kisumu county second in command stated that indeed the morticians play a very important role in the society.
If the ministry of health does as they wish, the morticians will enjoy allowances, yearly leaves and pensions like other health workers.
