The CBC curriculum should not be scrapped.
The Kenya national union of teachers, KNUT has stated that the competence based curriculum, is here to stay.
Speaking at a funeral of former KNUT official on Monday, November 14, KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu, said that the only thing that CBC needs is proper funding for it to run smoothly.
However, this remarks have raised reactions being that, KNUT is one of the unions in the education ministry that championed for the scrapping off of CBC.
Recently, a Kenya national union of teachers official, in Homabay, called for the government to suspend the Magoha implemented curriculum saying, it needs public participation first.
Patrick Were from Homabay said,”The CBC curriculum should not be scrapped but be suspended to enable the process that has begun of public participation to continue to its conclusive level.”
According to Patrick, suspension of the program would be a determinant of whether the education system needs the program or not.
Defending their earlier sentiments of rejection, the Union’s Secretary General stated that they first opposed the new curriculum was because it was implemented at the wrong time.
Oyuu said,” At inception the KNUT rejected the CBC because we wanted everything to be put in place to help in its implementation and adoption.”
He added that, the program will be beneficial if only the government fully funds it , without parents digging deep into their pockets.
Oyuu said,”What we are asking the government is that it fully funds the CBC and removes the burden from parents.”
