Ex Trans Nzoia Majority leader, Wafula Weswa has been arrested for abuse of office and conflict of interest by employing his daughter.
Weswa, hired his daughter Joan Nangila Wafula as a Committee Clerk in the County Assembly without declaring the conflict of interests hence breaking section 16 of the Leadership and Integrity Act,2012.
The Ethics and anti- corruption commission statement read,”EACC on 17th November 2022, arrested Hon. Alfred Wafula Weswa, former Majority Leader, Trans-Nzoia County Assembly and arraigned him before Kitale Anti-Corruption Court where he was charged with abuse of office and failure to declare a conflict of interest,” read a statement from the commission.”
“It is alleged that Alfred Wafula Weswa abused his office as the Leader of Majority and Member of the Kitale County Assembly Service Board when he participated in the interview and employment of his daughter as a Committee Clerk in the County Assembly without disclosing his interest as required by law,” added the statement.
Further, the court declared that on three other occasions in 2015, during meetings in Aturkan Hotel, Plenary Hall and Joventure Hotel, Mr. Weswa did not outline a conflict of interest contrary to Section 42(1) as read with Section 48(1) of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.
Weswa has however, pleaded not guilty on all counts, before Chief Magistrate Julias Ng’arng’ar.
He has been handed a bond of Ksh.300,000 or cash bail of Ksh.100,000, meanwhile, the case will be mentioned on December 7, 2022.
