Residents storm former MP’s property after court ruling; In Uasin gishu, Residents stormed into former nominated Member of parliament, Mark Too’s family.
The residents had filed a complaint on the land after winning a case filed by the family at the Kisumu Court of Appeal.
Reportedly, they were blocked from accessing the 25,000-acre plot of land after the police officers were deployed to bar them from access.
The police officers, led by Uasin Gishu Commander, Zacchaeus Ng’eno explained that they had to bar the squatters from the property until they have a valid court order.
Ngeno said,”Our aim here is to protect the property whether it belongs to the plaintiff or applicant. Our aim here is to ensure that there is peace.”
This was the third time, the squatters won the case against Mark Too’s family, who apparently illegally registered land and only gave the squatters 66 acres.
In Kisumu court of appeal, the ruling was in favor of the squatters. The problem came up when they could not access the land, that was legally handed to them.
The squatters stated, “What we don’t get is why would the police be involved in a land matter of this nature. Why would someone call in police after losing in the court of law.”
“You lose round one and you call the police. You lose round two and call police. Don’t we have a rule of law in this country? Why can’t that litigant move to another court.”
“There were three appeals at the Court of Appeal. They were heard, consolidated and a decision was rendered yesterday dismissing the said three appeals,” another narrated.
