A section of legislators collecting signatures to impeach Kuria from his Trade cabinet secretary role.
This comes after the remarks CS Kuria made last week while supporting the government in lifting the ban on Genetically modified foods and importing duty free maize.
According to the 2010 constitution, Article 152 outlines that at least a quarter of the Members of parliament( 88 out of 349) should support a motion to remove a CS from office for the impeachment process to move forward.
Led by Pokot South MP David Pkosing, the lawmakers have taken a step to make sure Kuria is removed from office.
Pkosing held a press outside parliament highlighting that Moses Kuria is not fit to run office.
Pkosing said,”Starting tomorrow (Wednesday, November 23), we will collect signatures to impeach Kuria as the CS for Trade. He should stay away from the maize discussion.”
Pkosing was supported by other lawmakers who stated that it is not right for the trade CS to authorize importation of maize, while farmers, especially from the rift valley are in their harvest season.
They stated that this is a deliberate move to kill Kenyan farmers’ produce in the market and promote foreign interests.
Nandi senator stated,”It has never happened in Kenya that maize is imported during the harvest season.”
“There’s a deliberate move to kill maize farming in Kenya. The local sugar sector suffered the same fate in the previous regimes,” he added.
