List of Legislators chosen to amend constitution in CDF quest sums up to a total of eight(8) members of parliament.
The amendement will be done under a parliamentary initiative stipulated in Article 256 of the Constitution.
The Members of parliament however, highlighted that this constitutional change will not require a referendum.
The legislators selected include; Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkonga, nominated MP John Mbadi, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, Kibwezi East legislator Eckomas Mutuse, Edward Muriu (Gatanga Member of parliament) Catherine Wambilianga the Bungoma Woman Representative, David Mboni from Kitui Rural constituency and Kakai Bisau from Kiminini.
The motion read,”Noting the general debate in the House on the legislative proposal to amend the constitution to entrench the three specialised funds, cognisant of the comments and views of the MPs during the general debate on the legislative proposal, this House resolves to establish a joint parliamentary committee.”
Additionally, the law makers stated that the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), Senate Oversight Fund (SOF) and Economic Stimulus and Empowerment Fund to be amended in the Constitution.
They argued that the funds are critical in handling development matters in their areas of leadership.
Earlier, the constituency developmene fund was proven unconstitutional led by chief justice Martha koome.
The legislators have been drafting motions to reinstated the CDF.
The Justices stated,” A fund directed at service delivery mandate can only be constitutionally complaint if structured in a manner that does not entangle members of Legislative bodies and Legislative bodies in the discharge of the service delivery mandate however symbolic.”
