Legislators turn down the demands of IEBC Four.
Legislators turn down the demands of IEBC Four; The commissioners had earlier requested to have a look at the petitioners files.
Led by Goerge Murugara, the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) refused to give in to Francis Wanderi’s lawyer’s demand.
He stated,”As far as the documentation is concerned, it has been pointed out in that affidavits, evidence attachments of documents are excluded and sometimes discretionary, and you have to respond to what is placed before you.”
The lawyer however, stated that if they are not granted access, they will not be committed to today’s hearing.
He stated,”In the absence of the material we have sought, we will be unable to commit ourselves to today’s hearing and if the committee will not be able to help us then we will not be able to proceed henceforth before the committee.”
The chair responded by stating that they are at liberty to do so.
He stated,”You are at liberty to file a written response by close of business today which we have extended to 6 p.m.”
Also, Wanderi’s lawyer accused president Ruto of having an influence over this case, a statement he was reprimanded to withdraw.
He stated,”Our contention is that no fair outcome would emanate from the investigations of this committee because of the attention from the highest office,”
