James Oswago, former IEBC boss found guilty in the chickengate scandal. According to the prosecution, Oswago illegally awarded a 1.3M tender on the supply of electoral materials.
A ruling that was made by justice Felix Kombo, requires Oswago to pay Ksh7.5 million fine or spend four years in jail.
The chickengate scandal case, started in 2013, where, Oswago and his deputy, failed to make changes after the court ordered them to drop the tender that they awarded to Face Technologies Limited.
The Chickengate Scandal was bribery for contract malpractice that occurred when a British printing firm, Smith & Ouzman Ltd, paid a sum of Ksh50 million to secure contracts for the printing of Kenya’s ballot papers and examination certificates during the election process.
The used the code word ‘chicken’ to make the payments to the commission hence the name ‘chicken gate’
