Now it’s a crime when I’m defending Azimio members- Lawyer Omari speaks after his summon by DCI.
Azimio la umoja lawyer, Danston Omari, was today summoned by the directorate of criminal investigations.
According to the statement , the lawyer is supposed to visit the DCI tomorrow by 9 Am over publication of false information in regard to the alleged invasion of Matiang’i residence on the night of February 8.
The summon part read,”I have reason to believe that you, Danstan Omari an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, is connected to the offence or has information which can assist me in my investigations.”
However, the lawyer visited the DCI headquarters and had a brief press release with the media.
In his statement , Danston Omari questioned on why the police are coming for him since he decided to represent Azimio la umoja leaders, but it was not the case when he was representing United Democratic Alliance leaders.
Omari stated,” I took an oath to defend my clients within the law. I took up the matter for the CS Matiang’i as my client.”
“When I was defending Tangatanga, and when I was defending UDA members, it was not a crime but now it’s a crime when I’m defending Azimio members in parliament,” he added.
Omari further argued that the same police summoning him, are the one he stood up for when the government called the killers.
He however affirmed that he will honor all the summons because he can never turn down a client because he or she is a politician.
He stated,”I defended them against a regime that called them killers, that called them murderers. Everybody got scared to defend the police, I stood up.”
“The only constant factor is that lawyers will never refuse to represent a client because of politics, so I will be here,” he added.
