Counterfeit alcoholic drinks affixed with fake KRA Stamps, recovered in Athi River.
A statement from the directorate of criminal investigations, indicated the scheme that has been going on in business centre along Athi-River in Machakos County, has finally came to a halt.
The Directorate of criminal investigations reported,”
COUNTERFEITED KRA STAMPS, ALCOHOLIC DRINKS RECOVERED IN ATHI RIVER
A consignment of counterfeit alcoholic drinks affixed with fake KRA stamps has been impounded at a go-down located at Khims Business Park, along Athi-River in Machakos County.”
In the raid done by the sleuths, a good amount of bottles containing alcohol such as blue mountain was recovered before they could reach the local market.
The case was particularly of interest, since the crackdown high level tax evasion schemes by traders started around the country.
DCI reported,”Cartons containing thousands of bottles of Blue Mountain Vodka destined for the local market were recovered, following the ongoing operation on high level tax evasion schemes by traders dealing in alcoholic and other related products.
Additionally, drums containing ethanol and other ingredients used to manufacture alcohol were recovered.
DCI stated,”Also recovered were over 4,500 litres of ethanol stored in drums, alcohol storage tanks, empty bottles and stickers, among other items related to the manufacturing of the alcoholic drink that is popular amongst the youths.
Suspects who are known to have been operating the plant illegally, are currently behind bars
DCI stated,”16 suspects were arrested at the premises found to be operating illegally, following the crackdown.”
