We need nothing short of a win-win solution- Kuria’s response to China square shut today.
Yesterday, the owner of the newly opened China city mall, released a statement saying that they will have to shut down to re- strategise their business.
This comes amid concerns that the China square is making a fortune, which has been a competition to traders in Kenya.
The statement read,”We regret to inform you that China Square Limited will be temporarily closed on Sunday, February 26, 2023.”
“Our commitment to providing you with the highest level of service remains as strong as ever, and we look forward to re-opening on Monday, February 27, with a renewed focus on meeting your expectations,” the retailer added.
The trade cabinet secretary, Moses Kuria has however stated that his aim is not send the Chinese out of business, but create a win- solution for both the Chinese and Kenyan traders.
He stated,”We need nothing short of a win-win solution.”
He further suggested that the Chinese will be well off in a manufacturing plant, which he will personally help them build, instead of competing with the local traders.
He stated,””I will assist China Square Owner Mr Cheng to set up a manufacturing plant in Kenya and work on a distribution partnership with Gikomba, Nyamakima, Eastleigh, Kamukunji, Muthurwa and River Road Traders.”
The China square has been trending, because of how cheap their goods are retailing at. Trade CS insisted that the Chinese are here to act as manufacturers and not traders, that was the deal they had with the government.
