Gov’t announces limited funding to students who scored C+ in 2022 KCSE exam.
Gov’t announces limited funding to students who managed to score C+ and above 2022 secondary national exam.
This comes after the state declared that there were inadequate funds to sponsor all students who qualified for undergraduate degree programs.
Speaking in Mombasa, University Fund Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Geoffrey Monari revealed the formula the state will use in funding university students.
He stated,” We are not going to tie placement on the amount of money available in the state coffers.
“Placement will continue, meaning everyone who scored C+ and above will get university placement through Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS),” he added.
He however stated that yes, everyone will get a university placement but that does not directly translate to university funding like before.
He stated,”We are going to fund based on the available funds.”
For all those students who scored C+ and above, they have to do new applications through the KUCCPS portal to be considered for State funding.
However, with this government proposed criteria, 30,088 out of 70,088 students who scored C+ will miss out on university funding.
This students will have to pay Ksh48,000 per semester for their undergraduate degree courses as proposed by the head of state, President William Ruto’s task force on Education.
