Kenyan small business owners protest high taxes & foreign competition.
According to videos seen by our media houses, traders have decided to protest the current economic trends.
The traders also complained of foreign competition, for instance the newly opened China square, whose products retail cheaply.
The protest has raised mixed reactions from netizens;
The government critic stated,”Mr Lei Cheng may respond by closing China Square. But what about the 500 people employed there? Will Moses Kuria & Rigathi Gachagua give them jobs?
What if other entreprises like #Carrefour and Jumia respond by closing?Kamukunji Nyamakima & Kamukunji shld stop this.”
Albert stated,”Kenyan small business owners protest high taxes & foreign competition. They’re calling on the government to support local businesses and create policies to help them compete.”
Fred stated,”Who knew Kikuyus would be the first people on the streets to protest against the High Cost of Living and the China Invasion during the Hustler Government.”
Dennis expressed,” For me I don’t see the reason why traders in Eastleigh,kamukunji,Gikomba and Nyamakima should demonstrate, they should borrow notes from this Chinese guy &get us quality goods at affordable prices.CS kuria should style up &leave foreign investors alone.”
Rich wrote,”Hundreds of Kenyans a majority of who voted in this govt are on the verge of loosing their jobs at China Square following the witch-hunt of Lei Cheng by this rogue regime, on the pretext of protecting Kamukunji, Gikomba and Nyamakima traders.”
Wainaina stated,”Kamukunji and Nyamakima traders are having a peaceful demonstration against the Chinese.Trade CS Moses Kuria should tell us how China Square are selling the same products as our traders at a cheaper price mind you they don’t manufacture what they sell. Stop exploiting Kenyans.”
Lubi posed,”Why are Luthuli,Nyamakima and Kamukunji extortionists demonstrating when the so called China Squre is owned by 99% Kenyans then 1% chines,why can’t they build their own malls,why should we go to Gikomba?.”
