Ruto announces vacancy of the sixth IEBC official,Masit has officially been fired.
The head of state, President William Samoei Ruto announces vacancy of the sixth IEBC officer, this is after he gave heed to the recommendations of the IEBC tribunal and fired Irene Masit.
The tribunal stated,”The tribunal is satisfied that the allegations of serious violation of the Constitution and other laws, and gross misconduct have been proved to the required standard and qualifies a recommendation for the removal from office of Commissioner Masit.”
In a gazette notice, it was stated that the only cause of action for a state officer who has conducted a gross miscounted, is termination of office.
The notice read,” I note that the litany of gross violations of the constitution by Irene Cherop Masit as enumerated in the report of the tribunal meet the required threshold for the removal from office of the subject state officer.”
“The tenure in office of Irene Cherop Masit as a Member of the IEBC be and is terminated with immediate effect,” read part of the notice.
The president further announced that the position of the sixth Independent electoral and boundaries commission official was vacant.
He stated,”In Exercise of the powers conferred by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander in chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, declare a vacancy in the position of the sixth member of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.”
