Cost of cooking gas to fall from ksh 2800 to ksh 500 by july- President William Ruto.
The head of state highlighted that the cost of cooking gas will be way cheaper by the next financial year, which starts in july.
Speaking at the relaunch of the 15-year-old Women Enterprise Fund in Nairobi, Hon. William Ruto promised that the 8 per cent VAT on gas will also removed.
His words were confirmed by the statehouse spokesperson who said,” President William Ruto has announced that the government will subsidise the cost of the 6kg gas cylinder by Sh2,000.”
“Currently, a 6kg cylinder costs about Ksh2,800, and with the subsidy, the price will fall to about Ksh500 in the next financial year beginning July this year.”
“The President, who was speaking at the relaunch of the 15-year-old Women Enterprise Fund in Nairobi, also announced that 8 per cent VAT on gas will be removed,” he added.
He added that , through this , the government will be able to make use of the clean energy and move away from fuel.
He stated,”This is in line with the government’s plan to increase the use of clean energy and reduce the use of fuel wood.”
Notable, the head of state highlighted that the drop in the price of cooking gas, will also lower the cost of this product.
He however, warned traders who will try to sell cheap and sub standard gas to Kenyans, that they will face the law.
He stated,”This will equally bring the prices of the product down significantly.
“He also warned unscrupulous businesspeople against selling and filling faulty gas cylinders, saying they would be dealt with according to the law,” he added.
