CS Machogu orders reinstatement of Meru university VC after students protested yesterday
CS Machogu orders reinstatement of Meru University vice chancellor, Romanus Odhiambo. The education cabinet secretary stated that the University’s Council did not follow the due procedure in its decision to terminate his term.
He highlighted that the terminal leave was ill-timed and unlawful and ordered the university’s council to reinstate the VC with immediate effect.
Consequently, CS Machogu ordered the resumption of learning activities on Wednesday, March 8. In addition, a graduation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, March 11, will go on as planned.
Machogu questioned on why the council would come to a conclusion of terminating his term, with a graduation scheduled on saturday.
He stated that the vice chancellor will go back to work and he will preside over the graduation that is to take place this weekend.
Machogu stated,” The institution’s 10th graduation ceremony, which was to take place on March 11, 2023, will proceed as planned and I will attend the ceremony.”
“The obvious consequence is that it would undermine the preparations for the imminent event and destroy the hopes of graduands to transit into the world of work immediately,” he added
He additionally ordered the dissolution of the University’s council with effect on Thursday, March 9.
His order comes a day after Meru university students protested and caused unrest all over the town saying they won’t accept the VC going away.
The council had retrenched the Vice chancellor on the basis that his work is below the expected performance.
