You cannot. Enough is enough -President Ruto issues a warning to Raila ahead of the March 20th demonstration
Yesterday, The head of state, president William Ruto, issued a warning to opposition leader, who is holding unlawful demonstrations, that could lead to destruction of properties and injuries.
This comes after Raila Odinga declared monday, March 20th as a public holiday. President Ruto stated that Kenya is a country governed by the rule of law, and no one is above that.
Hon. Ruto stated that he will not allow his administration to be blackmailed, he urged Kenyans to go to work and leave Raila do his demos.
He stated,”We must tell my good friend Raila Odinga. You cannot. Enough is enough. You cannot continue to blackmail the country. We have no problem with you organising demonstrations but please it is your responsibility to work with the police to make sure that the rest of the citizens of Kenya… their lives are not disrupted, their property is not destroyed and businesses are not affected. They can go to work and you can carry on with your demonstrations.”
He further called upon the opposition leader, to explain how peaceful the demonstration will be or it won’t happen.
He stated,“Odinga has been holding bloody and chaotic demonstrations for the last 50 years; he needs to assure Kenyans that this will be different. This is why we’ve told Raila Odinga to sit down with police and explain to them how the demonstrations will be peaceful.”
“Tunamwambia bwana Raila please, tupatie kaheshima kidogo. Hata sisi ni wakenya. Wewe sio Mkenya peke yako,” he added.
He affirmed that he will not give in to threats and blackmail, the law must be adhered to.
He stated,”I want to tell my elder brother Raila Odinga that we can’t have two sets of laws.”
Supporting him was deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua who questioned on why Raila did not protest when the economy was rough during Uhuru regime.
He posed,”“I am happy that you are not part of those planning demonstrations. Why didn’t Raila Odinga demonstrate when the cost of fertilizer was Sh 7,000 and unga prices at Sh 250?”
Mudavadi and Wetangula who were present at the press release, also stated that it is wrong for anyone to declare a day a public holiday.
Mudavadi stated,”We are in a country that is anchored by the rule of law. It’s wrong for anyone to declare a public holiday in disregard to the rule of law.”
Wetangula stated,”Destructive violent activism is absolutely unhelpful. Legitimacy of President Ruto is unquestionable.”
