List of conditions outlined by Raila ahead of talks with Ruto.
Yesterday, Azimio la umoja leader called off demonstrations that were supposed to take place today.
He stated that Ruto’s address to the nation, was a positive development for their course, therefore, they welcome talks with the president and all subsequent demos are hereby called off.
However, a list of conditions outlined by Azimio la umoja leader are to be the determinants of whether the talks will happen otherwise they will be back to the streets after a week.
Among the conditions is the release of those arrested while holding peaceful protests as well as the closing of court cases facing Azimio supporters over their peaceful protest.
He stated,”In accepting the call for dialogue, we ask that all arrests and prosecutions related to our demonstrations be stopped with immediate effect.”
He further addressed the reconstitution of the IEBC official, he talked of the IEBC selection panel saying it has to be from both sides( Azimio la umoja and Kenya kwanza).
He stated,”We agree that a balanced parliamentary process co-chaired by both sides and backed by experts from outside should proceed. In our view, this committee must be composed with immediate effect with strict deadlines for resolving the crisis facing the country.”
Raila further demanded that the four IEBC commissioners who resigned and the one kicked out, should be reinstated back to their posts in the electoral commission.
He stated,”We do not want to see the 4 commissioners who had said no to be sacrificed. We want those commissioners to be reinstated so that we can be able to move in as a country in one and a united way.”
