We will have to do away with the 3G network- CAK DG Chiloba.
Speaking at the Connected Summit 2023 held in Diani, communications authority of Kenya director general, Ezra Chiloba stated that the country will soon integrate 5G and do away with 3G.
He highlighted that the data-based digital economy is growing and evolving at a very high pace and this has resulted to the expansion of connectivity.
He stated,”The 96.4 per cent of Kenyans connected to the 3G and 4G network is above the African average and measures so well against the global average.”
Chiloba outlined that in the next five years, networks that will be working include 4G and 5G.
He stated,”The dominant network will be 4G and 5G. “Meaning we will have to do away with the 3G. We must be fully prepared with the innovation around 5G.”
According to digital statistics, mobile devices connected to the 3G/ 4G network stood at 59.5 per cent which the same as 59.58 million users.
Chiloba stated,”From the total 26.5 million were those connected to smartphones, while 3. 06 million were those of feature phones.”
He urgee all stakeholders to come on board and make sure everyone moves to the current fastest network that is 5G.
He stated,”We must think about the kind of education we will be offering to our young people, as we must be able to address the new digital divide, we are getting into a new strategic phase.”
