Postmortem reveal the cause of death of Wendy Abetti, who was a form one student at Sacred heart Mukumu girls.
This comes after there was an outbreak of food and water poisoning, that’s according to a report from health workers in Kakamega hospital
Report from pathologist, Titus Ngulungu, the girl’s stomach bled due to inflammation. The pathologist explained that the student must have ingested a toxin.
He stated,”After examination of the body, l have formed the opinion that the deceased died because of gastritis. However, l have collected more samples for toxicology tests at the government chemist to ascertain what caused the stomach inflammation.”
“She was highly hydrated at the time of her death,” the pathologist added.
Confirming the report was the mother, who expressed that she does not blame anyone and that the school will not be held accountable.
She expressed that her desire right now is for the health experts to hurry in their investigations and get into the bottom of the matter.
She stated,”Other tests are being taken to Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) for further examination.
Notably, she narrated the incident saying, the school administration informed her of the daughter’s condition after it was clear that it had gotten worse. She was instructed to pick her up on Thursday.
She was treated for a suspected bacterial infection at a local hospital and discharged to go home.
Unfortunately, the condition worsened while staying with the sister,She died after being rushed to another hospital for further medical attention.
She was among the two girls who died from the outbreak. The school is currently closed indefinitely aa investigation is being done.
