Sad as floods kill a mother and her children sleeping, In Taita Taveta.

Sad as floods kill a mother and kids;  Speaking to the media was Mwatete assistant commissioner Margaret Mwaniki who confirmed the tragic incident.

Mwaniki stated that the woman was pregnant and had locked herself in the house with the kids during the night.

The commissioner revealed that a warning had been sent to residents of the area, where they were told to move from the area until the long rains are over, so they can return.

Notably, that the family was residing next to a valley where a lake had dried up because of witnessed long drought.

Mwaniki stated,”She lived next to a valley. When it started raining, the neighbours moved from their houses but she went back to hers with her children and locked herself in the house. The water swept her away and her children while they were in the house.”

As a cautionary method, the local leaders have began an initiative to all residents to higher ground, to avert more deaths.

Mwaniki stated,”We do not want to lose any more lives or property as a result of floods. Those living in risky areas should take precautionary measures and move to higher ground.”
