Disquiet at Kisii referral Morgue as Family decry the poor state of body.
Disquiet at Kisii referral morgue, this comes after a family came to collect the body of their Veronica Nyabonyi only to find it full of maggots.
The family also complained that some parts of the deceased kin’s body appeared feasted by rats.
Speaking to the press, Henry Omambia the family spokesperson pointed fingers to the Kisii teaching and referral hospital, saying that the facility had poor storage and unbothered morgue attendants.
According to preliminary reports, the deceased, Nyabonyi who was 84 years of age, was brought to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment on March 26.
Unfortunately, she died days later and the body was transferred to the morgue for storage. The family stated that they only managed to identify Veronica’s body by one foot.
One of the family members narrated,”We came to pay bills and requested that I be allowed to see the body but one attendant kept me waiting. As I walked out my suspicions that something was amiss grew within me.”
The morticians explained that they’ve been experiencing intermittent power and malfunctioning storage systems hence the cause of the decay.
The morticians also stated that the facility is expected to carry 100 bodies, but as of now, they have an extra 100 which has forced them to pile up.
The mortician stated,”There are more than 200 bodies as we talk, an excess of 100 more.”
Speaking on the same issue, was another family, who lamented that they had to transfer a decomposed body to another morgue before they could bury their Kin.
