Raila gives in to Ruto’s conditions of Parliament-led talks or nothing.
Azimio la Umoja coalition principal, Raila gives in to Ruto’s conditions of Parliament-led talks or nothing.
This he did by removing from the equation, his earlier demand for the formation of a team akin to the 2008 National Accord.
They coalition however, affirmed that their demands will remain in place, regardless of where the talks are held.
Other Azimio allies argued that the role of president Ruto and Raila Odinga should also be recognised in the bipartisan dialogue where they could deliberate and forward it to the lawmakers for review.
Oparanya stated,”What we are saying is that the role of the two principals in the talks be recognised. They are not in Parliament but should have a way where they can have a session and have the deliberations forwarded to Parliament for action. The principals have to be involved. We cannot leave it to MPs alone.”
On the same issue, was Nairobi senator, Edwin Sifuna who stated that they whole process could be held in the National Assembly, but conducted in a manner similar to the National accord 2008.
Sifuna stated,”The team is made up of MPs, but the talks will not happen in Parliament. There is a precedent to this. The National Accord was negotiated by MPs, but in Serena.”
This comes after president Ruto, on Thursday stated that if Azimio does not want the dialogue to be held in parliament, then they should nothing will be held at all.
He stated,”We cannot hold talks outside the law. That is why I am saying we should allow our MPs to hold bipartisan talks in Parliament. If talks will not be held in Parliament, then they (Azimio) should wait for 2027.”
