Two highschools in western set ablaze simultaneously; St Peter’s Boys High School in Mumias, Kakamega County and Kivaywa Boys High School, both located in Kakamega county, burnt almost the same time.
In St. Peter’s mumias, the fire burnt down a domitory with a capacity of 90 students. Fortunately, no student was burnt down because at the time of the fire, students were dining.
The School Principal Crisphinus Owino, however, confirmed that the students had lost all their personal effects and bedding during the unfortunate incident.
He stated,“We have some extra mattresses and double-decker beds to take care of 80 of the affected students. We are making arrangements for the remaining 10 learners.”
The principal further stated that they have not yet known the cause of the fire, however, the Kakamega fire fighters were quick to take action and stop the fire.
Notably, The principal stated that no students is going home because arrangements are underway to make sure beddings are availed to the school.
He stated,”We do not know whether it is an electrical fault or it was deliberately started by one of our students.”
In Kivaywa Boys, the fire razed down two dormitories, cause not known. However, at the time of this publication, the school had not yet released a statement.
Concerns have been raised based on the fact that two schools in Western were also shut down indefinitely because students exhibited food poisoning symptoms.
