Opposition leader, Odinga Raila resumes another round of protests after failed Bipartisan talks with the head of state, William Ruto.
Yesterday, Raila Odinga announced that the mass action or anti-government demonstrations would begin as early as 6 am in various parts of Kenya, with the epicentre being Nairobi City.
He highlighted that the demos would be very peaceful and no supporters is allowed to carry any weapons around.
He stated,”Our demonstrators tomorrow have been informed that demos will be peaceful. No one is allowed to carry any weapon. Nobody should try to interfere with anybody’s private business. We are demonstrating to present our petitions to respective authorities.”
On the other hand, president William Ruto has outlined that he will neutralize the protests. This he said while addressing workers at the labour day celebrations.
He highlighted,” We are committed to delivering radical transformation that will ensure that workers receive significant and sustainable increase in the return to their labour. We will also enhance their social protection to further empower them for our socio-economic growth.“
As of now, Anti-riot police officers have been deployed at strategic areas in Nairobi central business district. The authorities also mounted roadblocks around the State House, Nairobi.
Protests have been seen make their way around Imara Daima Estate, off Mombasa Road. This has led to serious traffic snarl-up around GM stage.
In Kisumu, Protestors barricaded and lit bonfires on a number of roads, around the city.
