While attending the commemoration ceremony, Interior cabinet secretary, Kithure Kindiki swears to take action against criminals who killed politician who was under police protection.
The Former Meru Member of County Assembly (MCA) George Kaliunga was shot dead on sunday after a shoot out that happened between cattle rustlers and police officers.
He stated,”Condoling with the family and friends of the late Mr. George Kaliunga, the immediate former MCA of Antubetwe Kiongo Ward, Igembe North Constituency, Meru County, who lost his life to armed criminals who had executed a livestock theft raid early morning last Sunday. Investigations are underway to identify the killers and recover the stolen livestock. More security officers have been deployed to contain cases of insecurity in Meru North region.”
“To conclusively deal with cattle rustling, the Government has declared Meru North a security operation zone. The same dedication, vigour, and commitment deployed in the fight against bandits and armed criminals in the six counties of North Rift Valley will be deployed to neutralise perpetrators and masterminds of livestock theft,” he added.
The cabinet secretary further stated that an anti- stock theft unit camp, has been set up along the border of Meru and Isiolo.
Kindiki stated,”Addressed a security baraza meeting at Ndoleli Chief’s Camp and directed immediate establishment of an Anti-Stock theft unit camp at Lororo along the border of Meru and Isiolo counties.”
“A special investigative team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been constituted to probe the Sunday morning killing of former MCA of Antubetwe Kiongo Ward Mr. George Kaliunga by armed criminals after a livestock theft raid,” he added.
