Gov’t pathologist Oduor reveals how Shakahola victims were murdered.
Speaking to the media, Gov’t pathologist Oduor reveals what happened to some of the victims of Shakahola Massacre.
This comes after a postmortem exercise on 30 bodies exhumed from the 800-acre land in Shakahola Forest.
He stated,”For one of them, we could clearly see marks on the neck similar to those of someone who had been strangled with the breaking of some bones in the neck. We are certain that this person, who was a child, was actually strangulated.”
“Two (others) had undergone smothering. This is where someone blocks your nose and mouth so that you are unable to breathe and you die,” he added.
The pathologist further stated that another child died after suffering blunt force trauma to the head. Oduor also outlined that 20 of the bodies suffered the impact of starvation.
He also revealed that the 30 bodies, 8 were male while 22 were female and some of the bodies had gone through advanced decomposition and skeletonisation.
Oduor further clarified that as the exercise is on going, no representation is needed because an autopsy is a forensic investigation.
He stated,”Autopsy is more of a forensic investigation and they might not have any role inside there. Other than being traumatised, I don’t think their role is really needed there.”
Notably, The interior CS affirmed that security has been upscaled in the forest, incase of any survivors.
He stated,”The Government has upscaled the search and rescue efforts at Shakahola, Kilifi County. Additional security officers have been brought on board to boost the ongoing operation to save lives of persons who could be holed up in the bushes and thickets. Aerial surveillance has been incorporated to enhance the capacity of the multi-agency team in the search and rescue mission.”
