Gender and public affairs cabinet secretary, Aisha Jumwa signs a 751M deal with Finland.
The main aim is to fuel the fight against gender based violence in both countries.
Speaking at Pwani university in Kilifi county, Aisha jumwa together with Deputy Ambassador to Kenya Otto Kivinen and Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, stated their commitment to make sure they end GBV and also cater for the victims.
In their speech, It was highlighted that the Kenyan government contributed Ksh125 million while the Finland raised Ksh626 million to the GBV kitty.
The gender CS further issued a warning to the authorities who take advantage of the victims of GBV by demanding bribes from them , in order to access justice.
She stated,” I will discuss the matter with Interior Cabinet Secretary to make sure officers do not traumatize victims by asking for money to fill out the legal documents.”
Otto, also expressed his enthusiasm in working with the Kenyan government to make sure there’s no infringement of rights on the basis of gender.
Otto stated,”I am pleased to be part of the local launch of this bilateral program and we look forward to cooperation between us and the County Government of Kilifi.
Hon.Mung’aro also stated that no one will be required to pay, in their quest for justice, at Gender offices in Kilifi county.
Further, three counties that rank in cases of Gender based violence; Bungoma, Kilifi, and Samburu were selected to join hands in the fight against GBV and other practices such as Female genital mutilation.
