Azimio wants KRA investigated due to civil servants’ Salary delays.
The opposition, Azimio wants KRA investigated after Salary delays hit the government. National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi stated that the investigation should be launched on individuals and systems at the National Treasury and Central Bank of Kenya.
He stated,”We need to take a close and thorough look at the goings-on at revenue collection points and revenue sources like Kenya Airports Authority, the courts, customs, National Social Security Fund (NSSF), aids and grants and revenue administration in addition to probing government spending.”
“Where the proceeds from taxes and savings from scrapped subsidies are going?” Wandayi posed.
The leader further decried that it is not right for the government to say that they are still recovering from the pandemic or the Ukraine and Russia war.
“How can it be that we scrapped subsidies, increased taxes, and continued to borrow, only for our financial situation to get worse? he posed.
The lawmaker in his opinion stated that in his w, all this is happening because of the different types of corruption that is in the system.
He stated that criminals in the Revenue authority are pocketing people’s money and a probe needs to be done as soon as possible.
Wandayi stated,”The easy conclusion is that the criminals at KRA are collecting and pocketing taxes as the incompetents at National Treasury also skim off the revenue while failing to come up with sound policies for cash flow.”
“Nearly all civil servants don’t know when or if they will ever be paid. The situation has been degenerating progressively since December last year,” he added.
He highlighted that currently, only those working in the defense forces or security are receiving their salaries, but it won’t be long before they also start missing their salaries.
“…but it won’t be long before members of the disciplined forces also begin missing salaries if we continue this way,” he stated.
