Be guided by the principle of consciousness, Do not overtax- Governor Barasa to Ruto.
Speaking today, Kakamega county governor, Fernandes Barasa urged Kenya kwanza government review the finance bill on taxing.
He urged National Assembly to be mindful of the state of Kenyans before voting on proposed amendments in the Finance Bill, 2023.
He stated that Kenyans are already crying of the unstable economic state, this will only put more pressure on Kenyans considering that the cost of living is already high.
He stated,”That is why we are now calling upon the National Assembly to stand up and be guided by the principle of consciousness so that they don’t push this agenda on partisan basis.”
The governor reminded the Members of parliament that they promised their people, to care for them and be mindful of their state.
Barasa urged the ruling administration that in as much as they want deliver their manifesto or agenda, they should not jeorpodize the livelihoods of Kenyans and the cost of living.
He stated,”It is a responsibility of the government. Let us have a balance. It’s good to increase taxes but not to over increase taxes until you make the cost of living unbearable.”
This comes after Nandi county senator, Samson Cherargei, highlighted that passing the new propsed bill, is the way to go.
He stated,”On the Finance Bill 2023, the decision to pass by Parliament is not optional where even coma shall not be amended because we either borrow more or raise our revenue through taxation.”
“The serious public debt of Sh10 trillion was put by Handshake governemnt of Uhuru/ Tinga that the Kenyans are paying heavily now,” he added.
If passed, The VAT on petroleum products will increase from eight per cent to 16 per cent. Others include taxation on human hair, eyelashes, switches and artificial nails.
